Providence kindergarten registration begins January 16

Registration runs from January 16 to March 16

If your child is entering kindergarten in Providence next fall, it’s very important that you register him or her during the registration period. The Student Registration and Placement Center at 325 Ocean Street in Providence will be open weekdays from 8 am to 3 pm, and on select Saturdays (Feb. 24 and March 3, 10 and 17) from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Ready to Learn will be at the Registration Center between 10 am and 2 pm every day to explain the opportunity we give families of pre-kindergartners to participate in our popular Mind in the Making workshops.

Available registration days are determined by the first letter of your child’s last name. Go here to see the dates reserved for your child and for additional information. (It is in English and Spanish.) If you are a teacher in a prekindergarten program, please share this information with your families.

If you register online first, you can skip the line when you arrive at the Registration Center.

All parents who go between January 16-March 17 will have an opportunity to submit a choice form that can be used during the lottery. They will be given preference on a waitlist for said schools unless they need a specially designed program for their individual needs.

To be eligible for kindergarten, your child must have been born on or before September 1, 2013.

When you visit the Student Registration and Placement Center at 325 Ocean St., Providence, please bring the following documentation:

  • Original birth certificate, passport, green card or I-94 card.
  • Immunization records (most recent physical exam, vision and lead screening).
  • Proof of residency in Providence (utility bill, lease agreement or bank statement).
  • Special Education students should bring their current Individualized Education Program (IEP).

If a language other than English is spoken at home, your child will need a language assessment. These assessments are by appointment only.

Prospective students will not participate in the school choice process unless ALL requirements have been met.
