We’re part of the state’s Pre-K Program
Activity centers – including art corners, reading nooks, science tables, floor space for blocks, and a theater for dramatic play – fill our pre-kindergarten classrooms. From September to mid-June, children eagerly engage in these centers, developing early literacy, math and science skills while at play.
Ready to Learn participates in three of the classrooms in the state’s Pre-Kindergarten Project, a program administered by the RI Department of Education to demonstrate the value of high-quality early care and education. Children are chosen by lottery, and the program is offered at no cost to parents.
The R2LP Pre-kindergarten Classroom at CCRI (on the Liston Campus in Providence) has participated in the Pre-K Project since 2009. BrightStars, the state’s quality rating and improvement system, has recognized it as a five-star program since 2010.
R2LP and the Heritage Park YMCA Early Learning Center in Pawtucket operate two Pre-K classrooms at Heritage Park. An experienced teacher and assistant teacher staff each of the classrooms. Each setting accommodates 18 children.
Because of the strong demand for the prekindergarten program, children are selected by lottery, which is usually held in early July. When applications for the lottery are available in the spring, we’ll post them here. We encourage all parents to apply, but they must be residents of Providence to qualify for the R2LP classroom at CCRI, and residents of Pawtucket for the classrooms at Heritage Park. Children must turn 4 by September 1.
