Early Learning Grants

Ready to Learn Providence’s Early Learning Grants gave child-care providers a chance to apply for packages designed to enhance their programs and develop professional skills. Between 2003 and 2006, more than 50 family-care and center-based providers in Providence received these awards.

Grant packages were designed around specific themes. “Create your own” packages were also available for providers who, for example, may have wanted a particular literacy package or professional development course.  Prior to receiving their materials, providers were required to attend a workshop conducted by local early childhood experts in the related subject or discipline.

To assist providers in the application process, R2LP sponsored grant-writing workshops in both English and Spanish. Applications in this competitive process were accepted in both languages.

The program was funded through the Early Learning Opportunities Act (ELOA).

“Being awarded this grant was such a great feeling. It made me know that some people truly know that we are not babysitters.”
