English as a Second Language

Providence child-care providers looking to improve their English skills are encouraged to participate in courses offered through Ready to Learn Providence and the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI). The classes and textbooks are free.

Fifteen-week beginner-level courses are held at R2LP at 945 Westminster Street.

The ESL classes stress conversational skills, but the curriculum is tailored to the needs of child-care providers. For example, some providers may wish to improve their telephone skills, while others may want to enhance their reading skills to provide better literacy instruction to the children in their care.

Classes meet once a week from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
