Making Connections is a national initiative funded by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. In 2001 the Foundation chose Providence as one of its Making Connections sites.
Behind the initiative is the conviction that in order to improve outcomes for children, communities must strengthen connections between families and the support systems within those neighborhoods. In addition, the voices of these residents must be heard when decisions affecting their lives are being made.
The four Making Connections neighborhoods in Providence are Elmwood, Upper and Lower South Providence, and the West End – all Ready to Learn Providence target neighborhoods. With both initiatives dedicated to improving school readiness, Making Connections Providence and R2LP often work in partnership to involve parents in activities designed to build social networks, stronger families and healthier children.
