Associate's Degree: Costs for Home Child-Care Programs

What does the T.E.A.C.H. scholarship cover?

Effective May 2012 for new recipients, T.E.A.C.H. will cover 90 percent of the cost of tuition at the Community College of Rhode Island. (At current rates, this means a home-child care provider/business will pay approximately $55 per course.) T.E.A.C.H. also pays 90 percent of the required book costs for approved courses.

The project provides $6.75 per hour to cover a portion of costs for an approved substitute caregiver for release time. This funding supports an average of three hours of coverage each week of each approved semester (45-hour maximum). Providers may use release time to study, attend class, or meet personal needs. T.E.A.C.H. also provides a $50 travel stipend each semester.

At the conclusion of a contract year, T.E.A.C.H. awards a provider a $600 bonus if the required nine to 15 credit hours have been completed.

What are the costs for the home child-care business/provider?

The home child-care business/provider contributes 10 percent of tuition and fees, and 10 percent of the costs for required books.

Please download this handout (as a pdf) for a summary of these costs and contributions.
