Associate's Degree: Costs for Center-Based Educators and Sponsoring Centers

What does the T.E.A.C.H. scholarship cover?

Effective May 2012 for new scholarship recipients, T.E.A.C.H. will pay 85 percent of tuition for ECE students attending the Community College of Rhode Island. At current rates, this means that centers and participants will each pay just over $40 per course.

T.E.A.C.H. also pays 90 percent of book costs, $600 per contract year toward bonus pay, and a $50 credit each semester toward travel or technology costs. T.E.A.C.H. also provides programs with partial reimbursement (75 percent) for three hours of weekly release time while staff are enrolled in approved courses. (Currently, this translates to $6.75 per hour.) T.E.A.C.H. scholars may use release time to study, attend class, or meet personal needs.

What are the costs for sponsoring centers?

Sponsoring centers will contribute 7.5 percent of the cost of tuition and associated fees. A center also agrees to award scholars either a bonus or a raise upon completion of the scholarship contract. Under the AT-1 model, centers agree to a 1.5 percent raise over and beyond what the participant would normally receive. Under the AT-2 model, centers agree to pay the participant a bonus of $200. (In both models, the participant receives an additional $600 bonus from T.E.A.C.H.)

Centers also agree to contribute a maximum of 25 percent toward the paid release time each week of an approved term. (If coverage for this release time can be handled internally, the center still receives release-time payments from T.E.A.C.H.)

What are the costs for center-based scholarship recipients?

Scholars will contribute 7.5  percent of the cost of the approved tuition, and 10 percent of the costs of the books.
