Resources for Early-Care Educators and Professional Development Trainers

Since 2004, R2LP has provided training to more than 2,000 center-based and home-based early-care educators. In doing this, we have developed many handouts that participants and trainers have found helpful.

On this page we are making some of these materials available to all early-care educators, trainers and mentors. We encourage you to view these handouts online or to download them as pdfs.

This handout explains the value and use of the Personal Literacy Plan. These plans help educators organize data from formal and informal assessments, and then use that data to inform instruction and monitor progress. See the handout as a viewbook (below) or download it as a pdf.

The classroom’s physical environment is often called the “third teacher.” This handout explains how to create a literacy-rich environment in which reading and writing are truly integrated into every activity.

Family involvement in a preschooler’s education has a significant impact on a child’s cognitive and social development. See this handout for ideas on how to encourage literacy activities at home.
