Together, the 30 members work to promote early literacy programs for children of low-income and/or non-English speaking families; to create a real link between parents and child-care providers and their neighborhood libraries; and to build the capacity of child-care providers to improve the quality of their programs and to integrate early literacy activities into their programs.

Among the benefits to AmeriCorps members . . .

  • A living allowance of $10,900
  • Child-care allowance,
  • Training and experience in leadership, public speaking, child development, early childhood and literacy,
  • Three weeks vacation,
  • Health insurance, and
  • An educational award of $4,725 upon completion of 1,700 hours of service.

Applications for the 2008/2009 program will be accepted in the spring of 2008. Check this page for details.
