When Michelle Case, a teacher at The Genesis Center, showed her students a Ready to Learn Providence newsletter featuring pictures of her class, the children asked if they could make their own newspaper. As a participant in R2LP’s Early Reading First program, Michelle has been urging her students to think of themselves as authors and storytellers, and she saw a newspaper as a great opportunity to take this a step further. With help from ERF coach Jane Myers, the class dictated, illustrated and wrote a newspaper that was truly theirs.
Take a look at The Genesis Times. If you're an early-care provider, you may find that you, too, have a class of eager little reporters.
