If you are a parent, educator, child-care provider or concerned resident who shares our dream that all children will have high-quality early education and a healthy start, please take a few minutes to look at the many ways you can help us achieve this goal. Ready to Learn Providence and its partners offer numerous opportunities for you and your neighbors to participate in this initiative.
R2LP committees give child-care providers and others a voice in decisions that affect the lives of families and young children. Volunteer opportunities also exist in R2LP literacy programs hosted at the Providence Public Library, and in programs with the school department designed to facilitate the transition into kindergarten.
In August 2005, R2LP launched its AmeriCorps program, which has been funded for six years. Each year a new group of 35 full-time AmeriCorps members strengthen R2LP’s work in the city’s libraries, child-care centers, pediatric clinics and R2LP’s professional development programs. Applications for the 2010/2011 program will be accepted in the spring of 2010. See home page for details.
From time to time, paid positions open up at Ready to Learn Providence. Descriptions of those positions can be found under “Job Opportunities.”
The R2LP community is growing larger every day. Members tell us that participation in this community has helped them feel more connected with their neighbors and more instrumental in the school readiness of their own children. Please think about how you, too, might enjoy playing an active role in this exciting venture.
