Creating healthy and happy young children
We all know a healthy child is more likely to succeed and flourish in school. All of our programs stress the critical role that physical and emotional health plays in school readiness.
Since 2014 we have offered Mind in the Making: The Seven Essential Life Skills to families and early childhood educators. To date, well over 2,000 have completed this 16-hour facilitated workshop, which addresses the social, emotional and cognitive development of young children and focuses on the executive function skills that successful students possess. These are the skills that regulate our emotions and behavior, such as focusing on a task and listening to what others are saying. It is a program of the Bezos Family Foundation.
In the winter of 2013, we began offering The Incredible Years to parents, caregivers and home child-care providers. This 14-week program increases the social competence of children and reduces challenging behaviors.
We began offering I Am Moving, I Am Learning to center- and home-based providers in 2013. Head Start developed this program to stem childhood obesity by incorporating movement into all aspects of the daily routine.
