Congratulations to our 2009 AmeriCorps Graduates
Ready to Learn Providence recognized the extraordinary accomplishments of 27 AmeriCorps members at an end-of-the-year celebration on June 30th. With extensive training, R2LP’s AmeriCorps members work in libraries, child-care settings or at R2LP to enhance the literacy skills of the city’s youngest children.
“We don’t know the importance of our actions at the time – how they change a person’s day, week or even life, but they surely do,” noted Bernie Boudreau, director of Serve Rhode Island.
“I want to thank the R2LP staff for the direction they gave us and for making us all feel at home,” said Maria Perez, an AmeriCorps member who spoke at the event.
“[Through AmeriCorps] I got the money to go back to college, but more important, I got the confidence,” Yuberka Jimenez, a former R2LP AmeriCorps member, told the graduates.
The event, held at the Save The Bay facility on Narragansett Bay, concluded with a rousing rendition of R-2-L-P (sung to the music of “YMCA”) by the R2LP staff as a parting gift for this year’s AmeriCorps team.
